Are you looking for a set of winter tyres for your car, SUV or lorry? AM Rehv offers winter tyres designed to ensure maximum grip and control on snowy, icy and cold Estonian roads.

Specifics of Winter Tyres

Winter tyres provide reliable traction on roads at temperatures below +7°C. They differ from summer and all-season tyres due to their softer rubber compound, which maintains elasticity even at low temperatures, offering better grip. New winter tyres have deeper grooves and special sipes, which effectively clear water, snow, and slush from under the tyres, reducing the risk of slipping and improving braking ability.

At AM Rehv, you’ll find:

  • Studded Tyres: These are distinguished by metal studs embedded in the tread, improving grip on ice and compacted snow.
  • Studless Tyres: These rely on a special tread pattern and rubber compound to provide traction without the use of studs.

Choosing the Right Tyres

Selecting and fitting the correct winter tyres is crucial for safety on winter roads. When choosing the right set of winter tyres, consider the following factors:

  • Climate: For mild, less snowy winters, studless tyres (friction tyres) or European winter tyres, designed for low temperatures on wet and dry roads, are suitable. For harsh winters with heavy snow and ice, studded tyres or Scandinavian winter tyres with a more aggressive tread and a softer rubber compound are recommended.
  • Tyre Size: The correct tyre size can be found in your car’s manual or on the plaque inside the driver’s door. For example, the size 195/65 R15 represents a winter tyre with the following properties:
    • 195 – represents the tyre width in millimetres;
    • 65 – indicates the tyre height (the ratio of height to width as a percentage);
    • R15 – refers to a radial tyre with a rim diameter of 15 inches.
  • Load and Speed Indexes: These indicators must match or exceed your vehicle’s requirements. They are found at the end of the tyre specification, for example, 195/65 R15 91H, where:
    • 91 – represents the load index (up to 615 kg per tyre);
    • H – shows the speed index (up to 210 km/h).

When purchasing tyres, it is worth paying attention to the presence of a certification that confirms the quality and safety of the tyres. It is also important to regularly check the condition of your tyres, including tread depth and the integrity of the studs (if applicable). During summer, store your winter tyres in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Tyre pressure should be checked before usage, as it can fluctuate due to temperature changes.
